Unexpected guests? No problem.
We designed our tables to be extendable from the start so that when family and friends head over you’re always prepared. Each Grain and Frame table has the ability to add two 40cm end leaves. Each end leave can add space for two additional people.
Where do I store the end leaves?
The extension leaves are stored separately from the table. Most customers store them behind the sofa or sideboard. We designed them this way to ensure the elegance of the table remained uncompromised without big clunky mechanisms and splits in the tabletop.
Why does the grain run in the opposite direction?
To make sure that the end leaf is structurally stable we ensure that grain runs the length of the end leaf and not the width. This gives it maximum strength and prevents issues with cupping and warping.
Can I order an extension leaf at a later date?
Yes, we’ve standardised our design. If you are unsure wether you want 1 or 2 end leaves you can order always order another end leaf at a later date just send us a message.
How to extend?
1. Remove battens stored underneath leaf by removing the 6 Thumbscrews
2. Place battens on the underneath of the table and secure with 4 thumbscrews (2 each side)
3. Place the end leaf onto battens and secure with the final 2 thumbscrews.
Will my chairs fit?
When buying a new dining table it’s important to make sure that the chairs that will accompany the table will fit. We’ve put together this handy table to show you the maximum size the chairs can be.
What if I have a custom size, how can I calculate the maximum chair size?
Take the number of chairs down the length of the table and subtract 1. Then multiply this by 5cm to give you the total amount of clearance needed for the chairs to move in and out freely.
Then, take the distance between the legs and subtract the number above.
Finally, take that distance and divide by the number of chairs down the length of the table.
Now you have the maximum width the chair can be.
(Distance between the legs – ((Number of chairs – 1)*5))/Number of chairs
Example
The chairs that you like are 47.5cm wide and you want to know whether these chairs will fit under the 6-seater table.
To find this out, 2 (Number of chairs) – 1 * 5 = 5cm total clearance.
Then take 120cm (Distance between the legs) – 5 cm (clearance) = 115cm.
Then divide that by 2 (number of chairs along the length of the table)
115cm / 2 = 57.5cm.
57.5cm is the maximum width the chairs can be and still fit two under the table.
If you’re struggling with the formula above, please do send us a message and we can help.
Seater | Distance between legs (cm) | Amount of chairs down the length of the table | Maximum width of chair (cm) |
4 Seater | 91 | 2 | 45.5 |
6 Seater | 120 | 2 | 57.5 |
8 Seater | 150 | 2 | 70 |
8 Seater | 150 | 3 | 48 |

Trying to match flooring?
Picking wood types that go together can seem tricky; you don’t want the wood tones to be too similar as this can make the space look flat and boring, but you also don’t want too many completely different wood finishes as the space will look too busy.

Smooooth Spill Resistant Finish
Worried about spills? Don’t be.
Our oak tables come with our proprietary surface finish. It was initially developed for the hospitality industry where 1000’s of guests sit at the table each day.
The clear flat matte lacquer is perfect at providing great durability for the tabletop whilst maintaining the natural wood, avoiding a high gloss finish.
So whether your guests splash a glass of wine or your children spill their bolognese, you can rest assured your table is protected.
100% Oak – Built To Last
3-Layer construction for a lifetime of durability
Oak is famous for its incredible strength, which makes it a fantastic choice for tables. But there’s a catch—oak can be quite temperamental and tends to shift over time. This movement can lead to misaligned planks, causing cracks and splits that ruin the table’s look and sturdiness.
To tackle these issues, we’ve come up with a game-changing solution: a three-layer sandwich method. This innovative approach ensures our tables stay stable, flat, and durable for years.
We’re so confident in our method that we offer a 10-year structural guarantee.
Small space? tight staircase? narrow doorway?
Don’t worry, the legs of our dining tables are fully removable. That means our delivery team can deliver them to the tightest of spaces. Also ideal if you move home in the future.

Sawmarks
Lovingly designed and manufactured by Grain and Frame, each piece of timber is hewn using restored British band and circular saws; this working process leaves distinct marks which are never fully sanded out, thus maintaining the integral story of manufacturing.
